The idea

A bakery website, done properly

Bramwells is a family bakery with 18 shops across Greater Manchester. This is the website I designed to show what I’d build for a bakery, a food producer or any business with more than one shop.

The job of the website is to sell: pies, cakes, bread and party food ordered online and collected from a local shop. So ordering for collection is front and centre. Choose your shop once, then order from anywhere on the website, on a phone as easily as on a computer.

The designs

What I designed

Six pages that cover the whole journey, from finding a product to collecting it.

  • A homepage that sellsOrder for collection from the first screen, with the range in a few clear categories and Christmas orders given their own band.
  • Category pagesEvery pie in one place, most popular first, with sizes, prices and an add button on each one.
  • Product pagesChoose a size and whether it comes baked or ready to bake at home, with ingredients and allergens close at hand.
  • A click and collect basketChoose your shop, then a day and time. Your shop stays at the top of every page.
  • A page for every shopOpening times, a map and ordering for collection, so each shop can be found in local searches.
  • A wholesale sectionFor cafés, sandwich shops, offices and caterers: the trade range with full allergen information, and a form for trade enquiries.

The thinking

Built around how people search

People look for a bakery by what they want and where they are: a party pie, a Christmas order, a bakery near them.

So each of those has its own page, written for search, with the menus and links to tie them together. Big photos and clear type make the food the star, and the same design works for a single shop or a chain.
