Why redesign

What a redesign can do for your business.

The businesses I write proposals for usually have the same problem: their work is excellent, and their website doesn’t show it. Done properly, a redesign changes four things.

Look as good as your work

People judge how careful you are by everything they see before they meet you. A website as polished as your service turns their checking into a call.

Turn more visitors into customers

Clear routes to a call, a quote or an order, especially on a phone, so more of the people who already find you get in touch.

Get found for everything you do

A page for every service, place and product people search for, so Google has something to send them to.

Make it easier to run

Prices kept in one place, your team updating what changes, and nothing slowing the website down.

Why it deserves to be taken seriously

  • It’s the first place people check.Even customers who were recommended to you look you up before they call.
  • It works every hour of the day.A page that ranks keeps bringing in enquiries month after month, long after an advert would have stopped.
  • Rankings take years to build. One careless launch can lose them, which is why every redesign I do is run as a migration.

Example proposals

Three proposals I’ve written this year.

Each starts with an audit of the business’s own website, then new designs for its key pages, a plan for being found on Google, and a fixed price. The names and most of the detail are blurred. Yours would be about your website.

How it works

Five steps, from proposal to launch.

You get the audit, the proposal and the designs before you decide anything, and a fixed price before any work starts.

You’ll deal with me at every stepThe person who audits your website designs and builds the new one.
  1. 01

    I audit your website

I go through it the way your customers and Google do: how it looks and works on a phone, how fast it is, every page, and the searches it turns up for.

    Proposal
  2. 02

I show you what’s wrong with it

A written proposal in plain English: what’s holding the website back, from a design and an SEO point of view, with the evidence and what I’d do about it.

    Proposal
  3. 03

    I design your key pages

New designs for a few key pages, such as your homepage and your most important service or product pages, made with your own logo, words and photos.

    Proposal
  4. 04

    We talk it through

A call to go through everything together, answer your questions, and agree the plan and a fixed price.

    Proposal
  5. 05

I build it, and move everything across

Your new website built and tested, your content migrated, and every old page address redirected, so customers and Google follow you to the new site. Then I watch it closely after launch.

Website migration

Every redesign is a migration. I run it like one.

Your rankings and enquiries took years to build, and a careless launch can lose them in weeks. Most of the damage comes from the same handful of mistakes. Here’s how I handle the biggest.

  • What usually goes wrong: Old page addresses stop working, so visitors and Google hit dead ends

How I handle it: Every old address mapped to its new page with a permanent (301) redirect

  • What usually goes wrong: Pages that bring in traffic are cut or merged on instinct

How I handle it: What to keep, merge or retire decided from your traffic, links and sales

  • What usually goes wrong: Page titles, headings and Google’s structured data lost in the new design

How I handle it: Every new template checked against the live site before launch

  • What usually goes wrong: Important pages buried deeper by a new menu

How I handle it: Menus and internal links planned around the pages that earn

Questions

Questions, answered.

If yours isn’t here, ask me: there’s no such thing as a silly question about your own website.

Ask me a question
Does the proposal cost anything?

No. The audit, the written proposal, the designs for your key pages and the call to talk it through are all included, with no obligation. If you go ahead, the build has a fixed price, agreed before any work starts.

How much does a website redesign cost?

It depends on the website you have now and what the new one needs to do, so the price comes from the audit rather than a list. The biggest factors are how many types of page there are, how much content needs moving, and custom features such as quote engines or checkouts. It’s a fixed price, with migration included.

Will a redesign affect our Google rankings?

It can, which is why every redesign I do is run as a migration: your rankings and traffic measured first, every old address redirected, the new site checked before launch, and Search Console watched afterwards. Some movement is normal while Google takes in a new website. Nobody can honestly guarantee rankings won’t move, but this gives them the best chance of carrying over.

Which platforms do you work with?

Shopify, if it suits how you sell: a custom theme keeps your products, orders, payments and customer accounts where they are. Otherwise the new website is hand-built. I migrate from WordPress, WooCommerce, Wix, Squarespace, Shopify and older shop platforms, with every old address redirected.

Can our team still edit the website?

Yes. We agree up front which parts your team updates day to day, such as products, prices, news or case studies, and I build those to be edited without touching the design.

Can you carry on with SEO after launch?

Yes, as a twelve-month SEO programme: keyword research, new pages for the searches you want to win, content and technical work, paid monthly or up front. Hosting, security, backups and small changes are available monthly through Website Care.

How long does it take?

The proposal comes first, and I’ll tell you when to expect it when you ask for one. The build depends on the size of the website: once we agree the work, you get a written plan with the dates for each stage, and your current website stays live until launch.

What do you need from me?

For the proposal, just your name, your website’s address and your business email. If you can share Google Search Console and Analytics (read access is enough), the audit can go further, but it isn’t needed to start.
