Mark Leigh Excavations

A redesign for a family-run groundworks firm in Greater Manchester: one section for homeowners and one for builders and developers, a page for each of the 42 towns it covers, and quotes and calls a tap away on a phone.

The business

The job

Mark Leigh Excavations is a family-run excavation and groundwork business with more than 20 years’ experience, working for homeowners, builders and developers across Greater Manchester and Cheshire.

Its customers search in two very different ways. A homeowner wants a new driveway, a patio or drainage sorted; a builder or site manager wants groundwork priced from drawings and planned around a programme. In October 2026 I redesigned the website around both, with the business’s own photos and words checked line by line.

The website

What I built

Sixty-seven pages, each with a job to do.

  • Two sections, two audiencesDomestic and Commercial each have their own menu and nine service pages, worded for how homeowners and the trade search, so the two don’t compete in Google.
  • A page for each of 42 townsEach with that town’s own facts: the distance from the yard, the drive time, its postcodes and the route, all confirmed by the business.
  • The areas covered, on a mapEvery town on one map, so people can see straight away whether they’re covered.
  • Real jobs, in a galleryPhotos of the business’s own work, sorted by category, each opening full size.
  • Quotes and calls a tap awayA call and quote bar on phones, a free site visit and written quote offered throughout, and a form that goes straight to Mark.
  • Every claim checkedEach claim the website makes was checked on a review page and marked true or not. Only the true ones made it on.
  • Old addresses kept workingEvery address from the previous website redirects to its new home, so links and bookmarks still land somewhere useful.
  • Search foundationsStructured data for the business and its services, a sitemap, and a title and description written for every page.

Since launch

Looking after it

I host the website and keep it up to date.

When the business has news, a new service or new photos of finished jobs, it sends them over and I make the change.
